Maya Bernal

UCSB 2020’

Maya is a Sociology majored student. She researched how affirmative action is useful in its ability to allow more people of color and lower socioeconomic status to enter the UC system. Maya also looked into how the Board of Admissions interprets data from the SAT and the factors that go into accepting students. Beside her research in admission, Maya wrote three extra blog posts, in which two mainly about the work in class and how Writing 2 has been a nice relief from the stress of other classes; one blog was to get through my writer’s block because I was stuck trying to write one of the essays.

Alyson is currently a student, undeclared at UCSB. She researched specifically on student’s and teacher’s perspective on large class sizes. Keying is an international student from China. She is a student in UCSB majored in Financial Mathematics. Keying found researching in College Admission was particularly interesting because it’s the very start of College. She worked with three other team members to research on College Admission, including admission policy, discrimination, history, transfer admission, and college mismatch. She focused on transfer admission and college mismatch branch. Keying also contributes to building the credit work on Reimagining University Website.

Alexa favorite thing about this writing class was the fact that we didn’t have grades and I felt like we had more freedom in terms of writing what we wanted to.
